Erectile dysfunction is a type of sexual dysfunction. This is the inability of some men to obtain an erection which is enough for a satisfactory sexual activity. This condition is usual in the males who are 65 years and older. However, this is also experienced by younger men. Most men go through a rare episode of this sexual problem, which is quite normal.

This is due to the fact that as the male population age, the function of their erection goes through changes. There are times when achieving an erection takes long. For some individuals, it may not be as rigid as it used to be. On the other hand, there are some men who need more stimulation in order for them to obtain an erection.

When you develop erectile dysfunction, your orgasms will get less intense. The volume of your ejaculate will be lessened. Furthermore, your recovery period from one erection to another heightens. This means that you will have to wait for longer periods before you obtain another erection again.

Since erectile dysfunction occasionally occur in some men, it might be hard for some to determine whether they are affected with the condition or not. You will be able to determine the presence of this problem when you notice its patterns.

The most common sign would be the frequent inability to achieve an erection. It will also be hard for you to maintain your erection all throughout the duration of sexual activity. If you are unfortunate, your incapacity to get an erection happens all the time.

There are 3 steps for you to achieve and maintain your erection. First, you have to be aroused. Your arousal is achieved through adequate stimulation. The next step is the response of your nervous system.

When you feel aroused, your sexual arousal is communicated by your brain to your nervous system. In turn, there is an increased activation of blood flow to your organ. The last step would be the response of your blood vessel. The erection is obtained when the blood flows into the shafts of your organ.

On the other hand, the factors that cause your erectile dysfunction are categorized into three. These are the following:

Physical – this is generally comprised of underlying medical conditions.

Negative Emotions – these are usually comprised of feelings like anger, resentment, absence of interest, or hostility.

Psychological – these include depression, stress, and fatigue.

The most popular treatment for erectile dysfunction is Viagra. It works by increasing the sensitivity of your body to nitric oxide which occurs when you are stimulated sexually. L-arginine is a type of drug which has been marketed as a “natural” Viagra. But there is only little proof that it works.

Other than this, there are also other drugs which are taken together with Viagra; to make the results more effective. An example would be the acetyl types of cartinine, and propionyl. Recently, a lot of tests have been conducted. These are done in order to find more effective treatments for this medical problem.
